Insomnia's Electric Day
It was a relatively cloudy morning when Insomnia woke up and got ready for the day. As he was eating his breakfast, Insomnia glanced out the window and sighed. The clouds had begun to accumulate and darken, hiding away the light and making it almost as dark as night outside. What a day to open the cafe on Insomnia thought, finishing his breakfast and cleaning up after himself. Insomnia could hear the first rumble of thunder as he closed and locked his cottage door. I better hurry and get to the shop he thought as he hurried away from his door.
Insomnia made it to the cafe just as the rain broke through the clouds, a loud clap of thunder following in its wake. Insomnia shut the door and flipped the closed sign to open. He sighed as he made his way behind the counter and to the employees room to change into his uniform. Today is gonna be a long day, Insomnia thought, and with this weather I might not get a lot of guests. Insomnia finished tying the apron around his waist and made his way back to the front of the shop. Another very loud clap of thunder startled him a little.
Insomnia held a paw to his chest, feeling his heart beating wildly. Somnia usually enjoyed thunderstorms but not really loud ones. It made him somewhat overstimulated at times when they got too loud. Insomnia took a moment to settle his heart before beginning to make sure the cafe was ready for guests. He wiped and straightened the tables and made sure the chairs were in their places. He also made sure the little vases of flowers on each table were centered.
An hour into the cafe being open, Insomnia heard the tinkling of the bell above the door and looked up in time to see a guest pad through the door. It was Niomi. “Good morning Insomnia!” Niomi exclaimed cheerfully. Good morning Niomi Insomnia replied, using sign language to communicate. “Man is it stormy today!” Niomi exclaimed, walking over to a table and taking a seat. Yes it is. Insomnia replied, I’m probably not gonna get many guests today. You’re the first one. “I don’t blame them, it’s too nasty to be out and about today.” Insomnia nodded in agreement and walked over with a notepad in his paw. What would you like today Niomi? Insomnia asked with one paw.
“Chocolate milk and a croissant please Insomnia!” Niomi replied. Insomnia nodded, scribbling the order on his notepad. Coming right up! Insomnia turned and made his way back to the counter. He grabbed a croissant from the display case under the counter, placing it on a plate, and grabbed a glass from the cabinet behind him, walking over to the fridge to grab out the chocolate milk. Insomnia poured the milk into the glass and made his way back to Niomi’s table with croissant in hand. Here you are, enjoy! Insomnia signed. “Thanks insomnia!” Niomi exclaimed, tucking into her croissant. Niomi finished her croissant and milk a few minutes later. She paid for her meal before leaving.
“See you later Insomnia and good luck!” Niomi called, preparing to bolt out into the rain and get home as quick as she good. Thanks for coming Niomi and be careful on your way home Insomnia signed. “Will do!” After those words left her mouth, Niomi took off into the rain. Insomnia smiled as he watched her race away and made his way to her table to clean up. A few hours later the cafe was still empty and the storm hadn’t stopped. Looks like I should close up shop and head home Insomnia thought, sighing and making his way to the door to flip the sign over.
Before leaving, Insomnia made sure everything was straightened up and clean. Once sure of that, Insomnia made his way to the door and opened it. Closing it behind him, Somnia locked the door and began his trek back to his cottage. It only took a matter of seconds before Insomnia’s fur was soaked with water. About halfway back to his house, a bolt of lightning struck down into a pool of water and a crack of thunder followed shortly after. Insomnia jolted and froze in his tracks.
He heard and looked over at the puddle of water. Insomnia could see little crackles of electricity above the pool of water and felt drawn to it. Insomnia was an electric pup so he had an affinity for things like lightning and electrical currents. That didn’t mean he liked it very much however. He tolerated it but sometimes felt uncomfortable around it. This electricity however pulled at him and sang to him.
In a trance, Insomnia padded over to the pool and slowly stuck his paw into the electricity. Insomnia could feel the electricity tingling along his arm and paw pad. It didn’t hurt and it filled him with energy. Insomnia played with the electricity for a little bit, even letting it travel through his tail and hair. He felt it also pass over his horns and travel down his back. This electricity felt more comfortable and soothing than anything. Insomnia played with the electricity for a little while longer before coming out of his trance.
Insomnia pulled his paw away from the puddle and stood up. That was an interesting experience Insomnia thought, returning to walking back to his cottage. The storm began to let up just as Insomnia returned to his cottage. Insomnia opened the door and stepped inside. He closed the door behind him and began to shake off the excess water, grabbing a towel from the downstairs bathroom to dry himself off the rest of the way. After making sure he was dry, Insomnia made his way to the living room and plopped down onto the couch in the middle of the room. Insomnia could hear the last few rumbles of thunder as the storm dissipated and turned to pick up the book he was reading the other day.
Today turned out to be a very interesting day.
Hope y'all enjoy my story!
